Netflix orders Nurse Ratched origins series starring Sarah Paulson

A One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest prequel series starring Sarah Paulson as Nurse Ratched has been ordered by Netflix.

The series comes via American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy who will be reuniting once again with Paulson. The prequel show that will focus on the origins of the notorious psychiatric administrator Nurse Ratched.

The character was first introduced in Ken Kesey’s 1962 novel and was originally played by Louise Fletcher in the classic movie where she won an Academy Award for Best Actress.

The series will begin in 1947 and chronicle Ratched’s journey from an average nurse to a nightmarish authority figure. Nurse Ratched will be Murphy’s first streaming series and Netflix has already ordered two seasons of the show.

Nurse Ratched was created by recent film school graduate Evan Romansky and will see Murphy directing the opening episode. The show will be produced by Michael Douglas who fulfilled the same role for the original 1975 film.
