New Doctor Who – The Companion Chronicles audio box set coming April 2025

November 8, 2024 by Andrew Newton

Big Finish Productions has announced a brand-new box set coming next April to their Doctor Who – The Companion Chronicles range, which tells of adventures in the world of Doctor Who experienced by the many friends and companions that the Doctor has had.  This new box set, titled Families, provides four new audio adventures with each focusing on one of the First Doctor’s companions, all of which star the original cast.

Each companions’ story is narrated by the actor/actress who played that beloved character, with the first story by Vicki voiced by Maureen O’Brien, the Doctor’s granddaughter Susan played by Carol Anne Ford in the second, Peter Purves picks up his role as Steven Taylor for the third adventure and the fourth stars Lauren Cornelius, making her Companion Chronicles debut as Dodo Chaplet.

The four new adventures included in the box set are:

  • The Temple of Light by Jonathan Morris finds the TARDIS and time itself frozen. While the Doctor, Ian and Barbara are nowhere to be seen, Vicki finds herself with an unfamiliar civilisation.
  • Stardust and Ashes by Ian Potter tells Susan’s story of the time her and her family were trapped and threatened by a machine intelligence.
  • The Doctor and Steven arrive in medieval Normandy in The White Ship by Paul Morris. To complicate matters, Steven is mistaken for Stephen of Blois – the cousin of King Henry’s heir and the future king.
  • Finally, in The Y Factor by Christopher Cooper, the First Doctor and Dodo Chaplet encounter an alien fungus that has the remarkable ability of warping evil thoughts into evil deeds.

Doctor Who – The Companion Chronicles: Families is available to pre-order from the Big Finish website for £30.99 for the collector’s edition CD box set and download, or £24.99 for the digital download only.
