New Doctor Who: The Fifth Doctor Adventure available now from Big Finish

April 4, 2025 by Andrew Newton

A brand-new Doctor Who: The Fifth Doctor full-cast audio adventure arrives today on the Big Finish website.  The Fifth Doctor Adventures: Hooklight 1 is the first of two box sets and features episodes one to six of the Fifth Doctor’s biggest adventure yet.

In The Fifth Doctor Adventures: Hooklight 1, the Fifth Doctor (Peter Davison) and his companions Tegan (Janet Fielding), Nyssa (Sarah Sutton) and Adric (Matthew Waterhouse), arrive in the ancient and mysterious realm of Morning.  Here, the Doctor learns that an immensely powerful force has reemerged when a lamp filled with a mythical substance known as Hooklight has been discovered.  When the time travellers become separated from the TARDIS and each other, they must make other friends to help them.

With forces of chaos at work, the Doctor and his companions will face a great quest on their journey to the Dark Forge, but not everyone will survive.

From L to R: Matthew Waterhouse, Sarah Sutton, Alan Cox, Janet Fielding, Peter Davison, Celia Imrie and David Holt.

Joining the Doctor and his companions are Celia Imrie as Dr Kessica Myles, Davlin Crux as the pilot and buccaneer, Alan Cox, David Holt, Issy Van Randwyck, Theo Solomon, David Shaw-Parker, Ruby Crepin-Glyne and Harriet Kershaw.

Matthew Waterhouse (Adric) said: “This is a really enjoyable one to play – the scenes are fun, it’s exciting, there’s some nice humour. The Hooklight is really quite mysterious and strange. I like that combination of the science fiction story with the fantasy, gothic atmosphere and the frightening bits. Elements of this are actually quite scary.”

Doctor Who – The Fifth Doctor Adventures: Hooklight 1 is available now from the Big Finish website for £19.99 for the download and £24.99 for the limited Collector’s Edition CD box set and download.  Listeners can also purchase this, along with Hooklight 2, which is due out in May, as a multibuy bundle for £38 for the download and £47 for the limited Collector’s Edition CD box sets.
