Nicolas Cage says National Treasure 3 isn’t happening

March 13, 2024 by Matt Rodgers

Nicolas Cage has confirmed that there will be no National Treasure 3.

Rumours of a third installment in the blockbuster franchise have been scattered throughout the entertainment pages like clues followed by Cage’s Benjamin Franklin Gates, but it appears that the trail has finally gone cold.

During an interview with Screen Rant the Academy Award winning actor was asked about the current state of National Treasure 3 when he responded with “Here we go! See, you’re the one that brings these things up and they go out and they eclipse everything else. No, there is no National Treasure 3. If you want to find treasure, don’t look at Disney, okay? It’s not there.”

Cage’s recent career renaissance in films such as Mandy, Pig, and Dream Scenario appeared to lay the foundation for a return to the $800M grossing series following National Treasure (2004) and National Treasure: Book of Secrets (2007), but following the cancellation of Disney+ series National Treasure: Edge of History, it seems that Disney are happy to bury the franchise altogether.

Let us know if you’re disappointed we won’t get to go on another treasure hunt with Cage by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
