Obi-Wan spin off movie, Avengers: Infinity War promo art, Captain Marvel script update and more – Daily News Roundup

August 18, 2017 by Luke Owen

HELLO THERE

After being rumoured for what feels like a decade, it was reported yesterday by The Hollywood Reporter that Disney and Lucasfilm are in talks with Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot) about helming a spin-off movie for Obi-Wan Kenobi. The site reports that talks are at the earliest of stages, and there is currently no script for the film. Should a deal be reached, Daldry would oversee development and writing on the project, which is said to be one of several Anthology movies in the works at Lucasfilm. Read more here.

GODZILLA CONNECTIONS

Godzilla: King of the Monsters director Michael Dougherty has taken to Twitter to share an image that will excite fans of The Big G. The image is of the famous Oxygen Destroyer seen in the original 1954 movie, hinting at connections to the original Godzilla timeline. Check out the image here.

INFINITY ART

A new piece of promotional artwork for Avengers: Infinity War has arrived online, which features Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man (complete with his Iron Spider suit), Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon and Adolescent Groot. Check it out here.

LEAGUE ART

And it wasn’t just Marvel’s upcoming superhero team-up that got a new piece of promotional artwork, as DC’s Justice League got another piece – this time featuring Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel. Check it out here.

CAPTAIN MARVEL SCRIPT UPDATE

It was announced a couple of days ago that Tomb Raider scribe Geneva Robertson-Dworet had come on to work on the Captain Marvel script, and original co-writer Nicole Pearlman has taken to Twitter to say it’s not a page one re-write. “Geneva is taking it from here and I’m sure she’ll knock it out of the park,” she noted. “It’s been a great 2.5 years though. All the ideas the SDCC Marvel panel shared this year were pre-Geneva’s involvement. Others will stay too. Can’t say more.  Which is all to say – it’s going to be fine, and the project is in excellent hands.” Read more here.

SHAZAM! UPDATE!

Annabelle: Creation director David F. Sandberg has opened up about his upcoming Shazam! movie, confirming that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Black Adam will not feature in the film. “There’s a script, it’s the next DC movie to shoot,” he said. “There’ve been variations of the script, like before I came along, where… you know, variations where Black Adam was in and out and, you know. But now, this is about Shazam.” Read more here.
