Original Dune star Kyle MacLachlan says he is looking forward to seeing the remake

May 14, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Kyle MacLachlan, the star of the original Dune adaptation, has shared his excitement about seeing the Denis Villeneuve remake.

The latest effort to adapt the seminal Dune novels has got a lot of people excited, partly thanks to the goodwill director Denis Villeneuve has amassed in recent years and the stellar cast that is on board.

Kyle MacLachlan, who starred in David Lynch’s original Dune film, is also looking forward to seeing it. This is in contrast to Lynch who has little enthusiasm for the remake due to the heartache attached to his own failed version.

Twin Peaks star MacLachlan, however, is excited and told ComicBook.com: “I am looking forward to seeing it. I think Denis is such a wonderful filmmaker, he’s put together a really cool cast. I loved the books when I first read them back in, I think I was 15, so like 1972-73. I remain a fan, particularly of the first book, it’s one of my favorite books if not favorite book ever, I would read it every year. So I come at it from a different perspective than David, of course, and I think the book is so rich and the relationships are so interesting. There are so many ways to interpret it. I’m looking forward to seeing what he does.”

Dune is set to arrive in cinemas this December and hopefully, it can be the big-screen adaptation that the source material deserves.

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

Dune is directed by Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049) and sees Timothee Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name) leading the cast alongside Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Fallout), Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Dave Bautista (Avengers: Infinity War), Stellan Skarsgard (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again), Charlotte Rampling (Red Sparrow), Zendaya (Spider-Man: Far From Home), Javier Bardem (Loving Pablo), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame), Stephen McKinley Henderson (Fences), Sharon Duncan-Brewster (Sex Education), and Chang Chen (The Assassin).
