Pacific Rim shared universe, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom trailer, all-female Marvel team-up movie and more – Weekend News Roundup

October 16, 2017 by Luke Owen

PACIFIC RIM SHARED UNIVERSE

It should come as no surprise given the latest Hollywood trend, but it has been revealed that Pacific Rim: Uprising could be a launching platform for a shared universe. “If enough people show up to this, we’ve already talked about the plot of the third movie, and how the end of the third movie would expand the universe to a Star Wars/Star Trek-style [franchise] where you can go in many, many different directions,” director Steven DeKnight told Nerdist. “You can go main canon, you can go spin-offs, you can go one-offs. Yeah, that’s the plan. And I would love to see an animated TV show based on this.” Read more here.

WONDER WOMAN 2

Speaking of shared universes, and the production date for Wonder Woman 2 has possibly been revealed, with the rumoured plot involving, “Princess Diana facing off against the Soviet Union during the 1980s.” Read more here.

HAPPY DEATH DAY 2

Blumhouse have another low budget horror hit on their hands, with Happy Death Day pulling in $26 million in its opening weekend, and director Christopher Landon has revealed conversations about a sequel have already taken place. “I know what it is. I know what it is. But I can’t talk about it,” Landon jokes. “And that’s not a cop out! It’s a genuine ‘If.’ If we have the amazing fortune of getting to make another one of these, that’s what that movie is about.” Read more here.

ALL-FEMALE TEAM-UP

Marvel Studios haven’t got the best track record of female-led movies in their shared universe, but Thor: Ragnarok‘s Tessa Thompson has revealed that she’s spoken with Kevin Feige about a possible all-female team-up movie. “Recently I marched up with a couple of other women who work in Marvel and [asked Kevin] “’How about a movie with some female superheroes? Like all of them,’ said Thompson, with Feige picking up the story and stating that: “It was a pretty amazing moment to be somewhere and have your shoulder be taped and turn around find every female hero we have is standing there going, ‘How about it?’ And I said ‘yes.'” Read more here.
