Pan-Asian destroyers on their way to World of Warships

November 14, 2017 by Andrew Newton

MMO developers Wargaming have announced that a brand new branch of Pan-Asian Destroyers from China, Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan and South Korea are on their way to World of Warships.  Nine destroyers in total will be coming to the game soon and each one is equipped with deepwater torpedoes. Wargaming have provided a new video showcasing these new vessels and can be seen below…

Although the Pan-Asian faction cover a selection of nations the new branch of destroyers mostly come from the Republic of China (Taiwan).  These new destroyers are:

Tier II: Longjiang (Taiwan)
Ordered from Germany in 1913 to bolster the Republic of China’s Navy.  The ship carries 105 mm L/45 Tbts LC/16 guns (3 х 1) and 500 mm torpedoes (2 х 2).

Tier III: Phra Ruang (Thailand)
British destroyer of the R-class transferred to the Thai Navy in 1920.  A very high speed and good armament made this vessel the most powerful torpedo ship in the Thai Navy.  It carries 102 mm/40 PIX guns (3 x 1) and 533 mm DR Mk II torpedoes (2 х 2).

Tier IV: Shenyang (Taiwan)
Former Japanese destroyer of the Minekaze class that was transferred to the Republic of China Navy in 1947.  Sports 127 mm/51 Mark 7 guns (4 x 1) and 533 mm Triple torpedoes (2 x 3).

Tier V: Jianwei (Taiwan)
Developed in Britain, the design of this destroyer flotilla leader was offered to the Government of the Republic of China in 1929 (Project T.306), but it never materialized. The ship carries 120 mm/45 BL Mk I guns (5 x 1) and 533 mm TR Mk IV torpedoes (2 x 3).

Tier VI: Fushun (China)
Soviet destroyer transferred to the People’s Republic of China Navy in 1954.  It carries 130 mm/50 M1936 shì guns (4 x 1) and 533 mm 1-N torpedoes (2 x 3).

Tier VII: Gadjah Mada (Indonesia)
First built in Britain, transferred to the Royal Netherlands Navy then finally sold to Indonesia in 1951.  This destroyer carries 120 mm/45 CPXIX guns (3 x 2) and 533 mm QR Mk VI torpedoes (2 x 5).

Tier VIII: Hsienyang (Taiwan)
A Gleaves-class destroyer built for the U.S. Navy and transferred to the Republic of China (Taiwan) in 1955. The ship carries 127 mm/38 Mk30 guns (4 x 1) and 533 mm Mk14 Quintuple torpedoes (1 x 5 / 1 x 5).

Tier IX: Chung Mu (South Korea)
A Republic of Korea ship since 1963. It has 127 mm/38 Mk30 guns (5 x 1) and 533 mm Mk14 torpedoes (1 x 5 / 1 x 5).

Tier X: Yueyang (Taiwan)
Former U.S. destroyer transferred to the Republic of China Navy in 1969.  It carries 127 mm/38 Mk38 guns (3 x 2) and 533 mm Mk15 torpedoes (2 x 5).

All nine of these destroyers have Deepwater Torpedoes that travel at greater depths and deal more damage to larger capital ships than standard torpedoes.  This sounds brilliant for those wanting to get easy hits but there’s a downside, these torpedoes can also pass beneath a ship without hitting it if the opposing ship is another destroyer or shallow draft cruiser.

Look out for these new destroyers coming soon.
