Paul Feig would be “surprised” if Ghostbusters gets a sequel

November 23, 2016 by Luke Owen

With the film now out on Blu-ray and DVD, Paul Feig has been talking about his Ghostbusters remake and his thoughts on the project overall. It had a lot of detractors upon its announcement and the mediocre release and box office figures did little to help its cause, but despite the post-credits tease of a sequel it’s likely we won’t see this batch of Ghostbusters bustin’ again any time soon.

“If the studio was knocking on the door to do another one, I’d have to think about it,” the director told Den of Geek. “We had so much fun, and I’d love to work with that team again. But I would be very surprised.”

It’s unsurprising that Sony aren’t knocking on the door for another movie. The film was denied a release in the now lucrative Chinese market (a market which single-handily saved Warcraft earlier this year) and only made $229 million worldwide.

This is not the first time Feig has been unsure about a sequel saying it would depend on the DVD and Blu-Ray sales. This new comment would suggest they’ve not been very good either. Fans of the Ghostbusters won’t have to wait long for another outing, however, as a new animated series Ghostbusters: Ecto Force is out in 2018 along with a feature-length animated movie from original director Ivan Reitman.
