Deadline is reporting that Samantha Mathis and Henry Thomas have joined the cast of Paramount Players’ follow-up adaptation of Stephen King’s bestseller Pet Sematary.
Thomas, who broke out in Steven Spielberg’s E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, has most recently been seen on TV starring in the Netflix original series The Haunting of Bly Manor and The Haunting of Hill House from filmmaker Mike Flanagan. He is also set to appear in the upcoming Netflix limited series Midnight Mass, which is set to premiere next month. This also isn’t his first time in a Stephen King adaptation after previously appearing in Netflix’s Gerald’s Game.
Mathis has previously starred in the Blumhouse-produced Hulu anthology series Into the Dark, as well as Guillermo del Toro’s The Strain and The Good Wife. Her other credits include The Clovehitch Killer, Ewan McGregor’s feature directorial debut American Pastoral, and American Psycho.
Thomas and Mathis will star alongside Jackson White as a young Jud Crandall, Forrest Goodluck, Jack Mulhern, Natalie Alyn Lind, Isabella Star LeBlanc, and film icon Pam Grier.
The Lindsey Beer-directed film will “serve as an origin story to the Stephen King novel about a family that discovers a rather disturbing graveyard in the woods behind their home.” Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are set to produce the prequel which will debut exclusively on the Paramount+ streaming service.
