R-Type Tactics I • II Cosmos sets June launch date with new trailer

March 31, 2026 by Andrew Newton

NIS America has announced that the turn-based sci-fi strategy collection, R-Type Tactics I • II Cosmos, will be arriving on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on 18th June. This ultimate collection arrives on modern consoles for the first time, and will take players into the R-Type universe to fight the Bydo Empire. A suitably dramatic release date trailer can be seen below.

In R-Type Tactics I • II Cosmos, the Bydo Empire continues its relentless attack on humanity, and it’s up to players to outsmart and outmanoeuvre them with their Space Corps armada to achieve victory. Alternatively, the multiple campaigns will also allow players to join the ranks of the Bydo to bring an end to mankind.

Both R-Type Tactics games feature plenty of levels and hundreds of ships that players can command and deploy, plus there are branching missions to enjoy and a brand-new post-game story. For gamers in the west, this will be the first time R-Type Tactics II has been available, adding a new level of excitement for fans of the franchise.

Featuring:

  • Multiple campaigns and branching storylines.
  • Play as both the Bydo Empire and humanity’s last line of defence, the Space Corps.
  • Hundreds of different vessels to command.
  • A brand-new set of missions at the end of Tactics II.

Look out for more on R-Type Tactics I • II Cosmos in the coming months.
