Red Dead Redemption 2 outsells its predecessor in just 8 days

November 8, 2018 by Gary Collinson

After a monster opening weekend where it racked up $725 million in retail sales (the second biggest entertainment launch of all time after Grand Theft Auto V), Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2 has now hit another milestone.

In its first eight days on sale, the critically-acclaimed western has shifted 17 million copies worldwide, topping the total number of sales for the first Red Dead Redemption during its eight years on release.

Rockstar and its parent company Take-Two Interactive will certainly be delighted with the reception to the Read Dead Redemption sequel, although it hasn’t all been plain sailing as the developer has also come under the microscope for the working conditions and pressure placed upon its employees in the run up to the game’s release.

Meanwhile, in other Red Dead news, Take-Two’s chairman Strauss Zelnick has revealed to Variety that a beta for the upcoming online component of the game is set to launch “towards the end of the month”.
