Rian Johnson open to directing a comic book movie

September 27, 2012 by admin

During an interview Vulture ahead of the theatrical release of his latest film, the sci-fi thriller Looper, writer-director Rian Johnson was asked whether any studios have offered him the chance to tackle a comic book adaptation.
“There’s always conversations. It’s flattering to be in that circle of people who are thought about for those things, and I’m a big fan of those movies, so it’s fun to talk about them. Right now, I’m focusing on writing my next film, and it’s an original thing I’m working on. Not that I’d shut down the possibility in the future, but I’m in this spot right now where I can get these original movies made, and that’s not going to last forever. As long as that’s happening, I want to get as many of my own things made as possible.”

So, while Johnson doesn’t seem to be in any rush to jump on the comic book movie bandwagon, he certainly seems open to the possibility. As it happens, Warner Bros. have an opening, and if there’s one person apart from Christopher Nolan who might be able to convince Joseph Gordon-Levitt to return for a second outing in Gotham City post-The Dark Knight Rises, then surely it’s Johnson…

Looper is released tomorrow. Read our reviews here and here.
