Rosie Perez cast as Renee Montoya in DC’s Birds of Prey

October 4, 2018 by Gary Collinson

After last week’s casting of Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Huntress and Black Canary alongside Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, we now have word on casting for the final member of the Birds of Prey in the upcoming Warner Bros. and DC Films girl gang movie.

The Wrap is reporting that Rosie Perez (Do the Right Thing, Fearless) has signed on to portray Detective Renee Montoya, a character who – much like Harley Quinn – was originally introduced in the classic Batman: The Animated Series before making the jump to the DC comic book universe.

Still to be cast in the Cathy Yan-directed movie are Cassandra Cain, along with the film’s villain, widely assumed to be Black Mask. Both Ewan McGregor (Christopher Robin) and Sharlto Copley (District 9) have been rumoured to be in contention for the latter, a role which was reportedly turned down by Sam Rockwell (Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri).
