Ewan McGregor and Sharlto Copley reportedly up for Black Mask role in DC’s Birds of Prey

September 27, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Yesterday it was announced that Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Fargo) and Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Underground) have joined Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn in the upcoming DC Films girl gang movie Birds of Prey, with the actresses cast as Huntress and Black Canary respectively.

Still to be cast in the film are Detective Renee Montoya, who will join Harley, Huntress and Black Canary on the team, as well as young Cassandra Cain and the main antagonist, a crime lord heavily rumoured – and assumed, by this point – to be Roman Sionis, a.k.a. Black Mask.

Well, according to Variety’s Justin Kroll, Warner, DC Films and director Cathy Yan are just now starting to meet actors for the part, and it’s said that both Ewan McGregor (Christopher Robin) and Sharlto Copley (District 9) are among the contenders for the part.

Still have Renee Montoya and Cassandra Cain's roles to cast as well as the crime lord up against the team. Hearing names like Sharlto and Ewan McGreggor are actors they like for the role but have only started meeting actors for that part https://t.co/OaVfpTfkyM

Kroll also went on to claim that Sam Rockwell (Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri) was offered the role, but turned it down.

What do you make of these names as possibilities for Black Mask? Who would you like to see in the role? Let us know in the comments below…

Birds of Prey is set for release on February 7th 2020.
