Rumour: X-Men: First Class scribe Zack Stentz writing Booster Gold film

May 11, 2016 by James Garcia

Back in September, rumour broke out that Greg Berlanti, the man in charge of DC TV shows like Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl, was working on a feature film focusing on the DC crime fighting duo of Booster Gold and Blue Beetle.

While that film has yet to be confirmed by either Berlanti or Warner Brothers, a new rumour has surfaced that suggests it may actually be in the works: Zack Stentz, who wrote superhero films like Thor and X-Men: The Last Stand, as well as the Kevin Smith-directed episode of The Flash‘s second season, is reportedly working on the script.

Stentz was the guest star on Smith’s comic book podcast, Fatman on Batman, and hinted at a “secret project with Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and Sara Schechter,” the team of producers behind the aforementioned DC television shows.

While that could mean that Stentz is in fact working on a TV project for Berlanti, several of his subsequent comments allude to it actually being a film project. Shortly after the rumour broke (with some investigating courtesy of Cleats and Capes), Birth.Movies.Death’s Devin Faraci posted his own report, saying that his own insider sources have been telling him the same thing: “Stentz is writing Booster Gold, with Berlanti producing and possibly interested in directing.”

There is, unfortunately, no way to tell how far along such a film might be, or where it could fit into DC’s currently packed film slate. There are two open release dates available that Warner Brothers has reserved for unannounced DC films: October 5th, 2018, November 1st, 2019. One of those is most definitely reserved for Ben Affleck’s solo Batman movie, but the other is up for grabs. Perhaps, as a way to counteract the “dark and gritty” complaints that plagued Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Warner Brothers could inject some fun, time-traveling antics with a Booster Gold film? Only time will tell…
