San Andreas opens to $113 million worldwide

June 1, 2015 by admin

San Andreas has certainly been no disaster at the box office, having opened to an impressive $113 million worldwide.

The blockbuster movie, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, opened in 60 markets around the globe and shot to the number one position domestically with $53.1 million (knocking Tomorrowland from the top spot) and added another $60 million from its international screenings. This is the biggest non-Fast and Furious or G.I. Joe opening for Dwayne Johnson, who many thought wasn’t able to helm a money making movie after the failure of Hercules last year.

San Andreas‘ $53.1 million is also way ahead of its predicted take of $40 million.

After the infamous San Andreas Fault finally gives, triggering a magnitude 9 earthquake in California, a search and rescue helicopter pilot (Dwayne Johnson) and his estranged wife make their way together from Los Angeles to San Francisco to save their only daughter. But their treacherous journey north is only the beginning.  And when they think the worst may be over…it’s just getting started.

San Andreas reteams Dwayne Johnson with Journey 2: The Mysterious Island director Brad Peyton, and also stars Carla Gugino (Wayward Pines), Alexandra Daddario (Texas Chainsaw 3D), Archie Panjabi (The Good Wife), Hugo Johnstone-Burt (Home and Away), Art Parkinson (Game of Thrones), Ioan Gruffudd (Fantastic Four), Will Yun Lee (The Wolverine), Colton Haynes (Arrow), and Kylie Minogue (Street Fighter).
