Scarlett Johansson on Black Widow return for Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Age of Ultron

January 13, 2014 by admin

In April, Scarlett Johansson will reprise the role of Black Widow alongside fellow Avenger Chris Evans in Marvel’s first Phase Two offering of the year Captain America: The Winter Soldier, as well as reuniting with the rest of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes as cameras begin rolling on Joss Whedon’s hotly-anticipated sequel  The Avengers: Age of Ultron. During an interview with The Huffington Post, Johansson has spoken about her role in The Winter Soldier, comparing it to her first Marvel outing in Iron Man 2 and also offering up a few words on the Avengers sequel.

“My first Marvel film was Iron Man 2 and then we did The Avengers and then Chris Evans and I did Cap 2, but I think that film, there’s a couple of new characters. The Falcon [played by Anthony Mackie] is a new character in that, and of course Sebastian Stan is kind of continuing his character, obviously he’s playing the Winter Soldier. But these characters really kind of take on something bigger than they’ve ever seen, so I think it’s something that they can’t do without each other. In that sense, we were in it, kind of neck-and-neck, and it’s a bigger responsibility. But then again, even in Avengers 2, we all play in it, it’s not like, “Great, I’ll be booking, like, two days a week and then be eating sandwiches the rest of the week.” No, it’s on. We all are fighting in it together, we’re all fighting our own battles and our own demons and it’s a lot of dramatic work, and the physical part of it, so the films all have their own challenges, but it’s fun.”

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is set for release on March 28th in the UK and April 4th in North America, with Johannson, Evans, Mackie and Stan joined in the cast by Marvel veterans Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Hayley Atwell (Peggy Carter), Toby Jones (Arnim Zola) and Maximiliano Hernandez (Jasper Sitwell), Emily VanCamp (Sharon Carter / Agent 13), Frank Grillo (Brock Rumlow), George St-Pierre (Georges Batroc) and Robert Redford (Alexander Pierce). Meanwhile, The Avengers: Age of Ultron will open on May 1st 2015 and also features Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Mark Ruffalo (The Incredible Hulk), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Quicksilver), and James Spader (Ultron).
