Scott Derrickson returning to R-rated horror after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

December 10, 2019 by Liam Waddington

Doctor Strange and Sinister director Scott Derrickson has revealed he will be making his return to the R-rated horror genre after he has finished production on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Recently, Derrickson took to Twitter to announce his return to horror with his long-time collaborator C. Robert Cargill, who co-wrote Doctor Strange and the Sinister series alongside Derrickson.

“I’m often asked if I’ll ever return to R-rated horror. The answer is a resounding YES,” Derrickson tweeted. “After Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, I’ll go straight into a horror film I’ve already written with [C. Robert Cargill].”

Cargill then responded with a follow-up tweet stating, “might as well also tell you that it’s an adaptation of a Joe Hill joint. Everything else we gotta keep quiet ATM.”

Man, thanks for all the love, you guys. @scottderrickson and I have been sitting on this secret for a while, but we're super excited about it. Can't wait to make it.

Might as well also tell you that it's an adaptation of a @joe_hill joint. Everything else we gotta keep quiet ATM

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will see Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme joined by Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch. The Marvel sequel is slated for release on May 7th 2021.
