The first half of SEGA’s 2015 fiscal year isn’t looking too good – the company has suffered a loss of $17.9 million.
The period ending September 30th 2014 saw SEGA manage to pull in $1.3 billion in revenue, which is down 5% year-on-year. Less than a third of the total revenue came from SEGA’s game division and they only released one console game in the second quarter of the year, which was Persona 4 Arena Ultimax. It sold 230,000 units before the end of September. Operating profit was down 72% to $30.9 million.
SEGA’s nine-month results should show a nice improvement however, as the heavily anticipated Alien: Isolation was released a week after the accounting period closed. Check out the Flickering Myth review of Alien: Isolation here.
The majority of SEGA’s game division revenue, which totalled to $439 million, came from digital games, which accounted for $196 million, while packaged games only totalled $137 million. With the upcoming Sonic Boom on the horizon, it will be interesting to see how SEGA’s fortunes continue to fare.
