Sony wins race for Quentin Tarantino’s Manson Family film, working title revealed

November 17, 2017 by Matt Rodgers

Deadline is reporting that Sony Pictures has won the hotly contested race to finance and distribute Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming Manson Family film, for which the working title has now been revealed as #9.

Beyond the announcement and the temp title, which presumably refers to the fact that it’s the director’s ninth film (and, potentially, Manson’s fascination with Chapter 9 of the Book of Revelation and the ‘Revolution 9′ track from The Beatles’ White Album?), little else has been unveiled.

#9 will be an ensemble piece, with Tarantino having had conversations with Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and Tom Cruise, as well as his well publicised desire to have Margot Robbie play the role of Sharon Tate.

Focusing on the infamous Hollywood hills murders, #9 will reportedly “explore the tragedy and cultural phenomenon of Manson, his followers and the famous victims of their cult violence.”

Production on #9 will start next year for a 2019 release, and the film will be produced by Paddington 2‘s David Heyman, Tarantino, and Shannon McIntosh, with Georgia Kacandes acting as exec producer and line producer.
