Spawn reboot won’t begin shooting until June 2019

October 28, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Given the amount of time that Todd McFarlane spent on the script and shopping the project around Hollywood, it shouldn’t really come as much of a surprise that – despite securing funding from Blumhouse Productions and two stars in Jamie Foxx and Jeremy Renner – the long-planned Spawn reboot seems to be moving at a snail’s pace.

Initial reports claimed that the film, which McFarlane will direct, was set to begin production in February of this year, before being pushed back to May. We are of course now six months on from that, and according to the latest report from Production Weekly, production has been pushed back once again, and cameras are now slated to begin rolling in June 2019 in Toronto.

Details on Spawn are being kept tightly under wraps, but McFarlane has said repeatedly that he is aiming for an extremely hard R-rating, and that it will be so dark it’ll “make kids cry”.

If – and the emphasis is on if here – the Spawn reboot does begin production in June of next year, we can presumably expect it to arrive in cinemas some time in early 2020.
