Star Wars: The Clone Wars returning February 2020 on Disney+

August 24, 2019 by Ricky Church

Among all the news of Star Wars‘ D23 panel, one that should excite many fans is the return of Star Wars: The Clone Wars for a seventh and final season. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy revealed when the season would premiere along with a new image of the anticipated fight between Ahsoka Tano and Darth Maul in the Siege of Mandalore.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars will return in February 2020 on Disney+. The season is heavily anticipated because the series never received a proper conclusion when it was first cancelled, leaving several threads left open. One of those threads is an event called ‘The Siege of Mandalore’ that took place near the end of the Clone Wars and has been teased by series creator Dave Filoni and members of the cast for a long time. It has been alluded to through other Star Wars media, such as Star Wars Rebels, and it notable for a fight Ashoka Tano and Darth Maul had during the conflict. Filoni revealed at Star Wars Celebration earlier this year that the series actually utilized motion capture technology on Darth Maul actor Ray Park, animating his movements into the show.

“It is,” said Filoni when asked by EW if the new run of episodes will serve as a finale to the show. “It will conclude the story that [George Lucas] and I started together. There could be stories after that that take place with a lot of those characters. But especially for me directing Clone Wars, being that hands on, I wrote and directed the final four episodes. It’s the end of something I feel really good about.”

Star Wars: The Clone Wars originally ran for five seasons, but was cancelled in 2013 after Disney bought Lucasfilm film and wanted to produce their own Star Wars series, which is how Star Wars Rebels began. As some episodes had completed production at the time, a shorter sixth season was released on Netflix in 2014. This new seventh season with run for 12 epiosdes in total.
