Survival horror I Hate This Place unveils gameplay trailer

July 31, 2025 by Andrew Newton

Broken Mirror Games, Skybound Entertainment, and developer Rock Square Thunder have released the first gameplay trailer for their isometric survival horror I Hate This Place. This new trailer (see below) shows some of the twisted monsters that players will encounter in the warped world they find themselves in.

I Hate This Place takes players to a warped wilderness, where unfathomable creatures and an unforgiving environment will challenge players’ survival skills.  In a bold comic book art style, players will explore their world, scavenge for resources, and craft a variety of weapons. By day, players will gather supplies, craft equipment, and fortify their shelter ready for nightfall, when all hell breaks loose.

Inspired by Skybound’s Eisner Award-nominated comic book series created by writer Kyle Starks and artist Artyom Topilin, I Hate This Place puts players in the shoes of Elena, who finds herself hunted in a hostile world after she unittingly summons a malevolent force. Elena needs to scour every corner of Rutherford Ranch, including haunted forests, a derelict town, and infested bunkers, to gather vital resources.

The game features:

  • A dynamic day-night cycle that changes the world. By day gather supplies and reinforce a shelter, but by night prepare for a tough fight against stronger and more aggressive enemies.
  • Use stealth as well as combat. Many creatures will hunt Elena by sound, so use that to your advantage and lure them into traps.
  • A retro comic book style filled with colour and a heavy dose of 1980’s flair.

I Hate This Place will launch on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch later this year.
