Taika Waititi reveals his favourite Star Wars moment from The Empire Strikes Back

December 18, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Taika Waititi, the director of an upcoming Star Wars movie, has revealed his favourite moment from The Empire Strikes Back.

Sadly, we didn’t get any details last week about Taika Waititi’s Star Wars movie but it’s safe to say it will showcase his own unique style and approach to filmmaking.

We can also use the director’s favourite moment from Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back as perhaps a small indication of what he enjoys in a Star Wars movie. Speaking to The Star Wars Show, the director detailed his favourite scene from the classic entry:

“My favorite moment is on Dagobah when Luke is trying to bring his X-wing out of the swamp. Then Yoda, with his three little fingers, brings the thing out of the swamp. Not only just brings it up to the surface, out of the water, and what does Luke say? ‘I don’t believe it.’ That, for me, is the best moment in the film. That’s a message I can take with me throughout my life.”

It’s an iconic moment to be sure and one that man fans around the world will also count as their favourite. We will likely be waiting for quite some time before seeing Waititi’s movie, especially as we will first need to see Patty Jenkin’s Star Wars: Rogue Squadron in December 2023, while Waititi also has Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder on his upcoming slate.
