The Batman Part II delayed another full year into 2027

December 28, 2024 by Gary Collinson

Bad news for Batman fans, as we’re going to have to wait until 2027 to see Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight returning to the big screen with Warner Bros. and DC Studios officially pushing back the release of The Batman Part II to October 2027.

The sequel to the Matt Reeves-directed 2022 reboot was originally slated to open on October 3rd 2025, but was pushed back to October 2nd 2026 earlier this year and has now suffered another twelve month delay with Warner now dating the film for October 1st 2027.

“Matt is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write,” DC Studios co-chief James Gunn confirmed on social media. “Once there is a finished script, there is around two years for pre-production, shooting and post-production on big films.”

Meanwhile, according to a report from THR, the film will also be undergoing a change of title and is no longer being referred to as The Batman Part II.

With the new film now almost three years out, it remains to be seen if Warner Bros. and DC will further explore Reeves’ Gotham City ahead of the sequel, with the filmmaker recently expressing his desire to see more spinoffs in the wake of the critically acclaimed HBO series The Penguin. It’s also possible we could see the introduction of another live-action Batman before Pattinson’s return, depending on the progress that The Flash director Andy Muschietti is making on DC Studios’ The Brave and the Bold.

UPDATE: It appears The Brave and the Bold isn’t going to be with us any time soon either, as Muschietti has told the California Secreta podcast that: “I’m now writing a science fiction movie that I would like to do… Batman is a project that’s been postponed a bit. So there could be another film before it, possibly that one.”
