The CW’s The Flash planning five guest star-filled “event episodes” for Season 8

May 27, 2021 by EJ Moreno

The Flash continues to be the place where all The CW superheroes come together. The CW President Mark Pedowitz opened up to the press in a conference call about the plans for the upcoming eighth season of the DC series and said that many familiar faces from the former Arrowverse (now “CW-verse”) shows will come together for some event-type episodes.

“The idea for The Flash is, Eric Wallace and Greg [Berlanti] have come together and are talking about other superheroes from the CW-verse who will come together in each individual episode,” Pedowitz said. “It will not quite be a crossover but will have a crossover-type feel and the introduction of all these characters.”

When pressed by Entertainment Weekly on the call about who would appear in these event episodes, Pedowitz played coy. “I’ll let you have those conversations with Eric Wallace. We do know that there are a couple feelers out to a couple of the actors, but we have no definitives yet.”

The Flash is joining Riverdale in a new type of promotion for The CW shows. Both series will be starting with five of these “event episodes” that will lead into the rest of the regular season. This is also being done to accommodating their delayed production start dates.

“They will have completed production [on their current seasons] by the end of June, early July. So there will be enough of a hiatus, so they will come back sometime in early September so that they’re fully rested,” Pedowitz said. “Because they’re coming in early September, there’s no way we can get eight or nine episodes up and running. So we’re thrilled to have these eventize programming that we’re going to do with Flash and Riverdale for those five episodes that start in mid-November.”

The Flash season 7 airs on Tuesdays on The CW.
