The ideal anti-Valentine’s Day gift for film fantatics

February 12, 2015 by admin

This year MUBI, a curated video-on-demand service, will be offering an opportunity for individuals to gift someone they love with a great film every day for a year. MUBI’s in-house film experts will hand pick a beautiful new film each day, and each film will be available for 30 days. All for just £22.99 a year.

Visit mubi.com for more details.

“MUBI is a platform where groundbreaking independent, foreign and cult, classic films can be streamed and downloaded by the customer for up to 30 days. New films are independently curated and added on the platform each day by MUBI’s own film experts, chosen for their cultural relevance and tastes taking into account current affairs and anniversaries. MUBI is available on the web, iPad, iPhone, Android, PlayStation, Samsung Smart TVs and other internet-connected devices worldwide.”

So what’s on over the Valentine’s weekend? A trio of erotic cinema that would make Christen Grey blush!

Tomorrow sees faux-instructional erotica The Language of Love, which is the same film Robert De Niro take Cybill Sheperd to see in Taxi Driver and Cliff Richard and 30,000 others protested upon its release. Following that on Saturday is In The Realm of Senses, a Japanese movie known for its un-simulated and graphic sexual content – which is still censored in Japan to this day! But here, it’s in its full uncut glory (poor word choices there, sorry).

And lastly on Sunday it’s Michael Winterbottom’s The Killer Inside Me starring Casey Affleck, Jessica Alba and Kate Hudson which explores, in a stylish, violent and ultimately unsettling way, the powerful three-way relationship between love, sex and violence.
