The Metal Gear Solid movie will embrace the game’s weirdness

August 2, 2018 by Samuel Brace

The director of the Metal Gear Solid movie, Jordan Vogt-Roberts, has revealed that his film will embrace the weird and supernatural elements of the games.

Video game to movie adaptations are always an intriguing subject, with films often finding it difficult to capture the essence of what made their source material so special.

Director of the Metal Gear Solid movie, Jordan Vogt-Roberts, is hoping this isn’t the case with his adaptation and revealed to Screen Rant that the film will certainly embrace the weirder elements of the classic franchise from which it is based:

“You know the beauty of Metal Gear and the reason I give our producers and the studio a ton of credit is because I went in and said, ‘Let’s embrace the fact that this is weird.’ Let’s embrace the fact that there are supernatural elements to this game that are horror elements to this game. Let’s embrace the fact that there are weird Japanese quirkiness and idiosyncrasies and oddities that are all framed around this very self-serious world and let’s lean into those things and let’s have it be unique and unlike anything else because it represents those things and let’s have the rest of the world fall in love with it because of that as opposed to trying to make it something else.”

This is certainly the message fans wants to hear from the director of Metal Gear Solid. Vogt-Roberts is unquestionably talking the talk when it comes to delivering a successful adaptation of MGS but will he deliver? Well, we will have to wait and see.
