Thor: Ragnarok has surpassed Wonder Woman at the global box office

December 12, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok has now moved past DC’s Wonder Woman at the global box office.

Much is said about the Marvel/DC rivalry, and while none of it really matters, it is certainly interesting to see how various superhero movies perform at the box office compared to one another.

Thor: Ragnarok has been doing particularly well in markets across the world, having pulled in $301 million in the US and an impressive $833 million worldwide. Comparing this to past Thor films, Ragnarok looks even better, beating out Thor ($449 million) and Thor: The Dark World ($644 million) with considerable ease.

But it’s not just previous Thor movies that Ragnarok is besting, with the movie now surpassing the very popular Wonder Woman at the box office as well (via Box Office Mojo). The $833 million of Thor: Ragnarok has just edged it past Wonder Woman’s $821 million.

Wonder Woman, however, still has bragging rights at home, with the Gal Gadot led film collecting a mighty $412 million in the US, comfortably ahead of Thor: Ragnarok’s domestic total.

In Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok,” Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk.

Thor: Ragnarok is directed by Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) and features a cast that includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Idris Elba as Heimdall and Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster, Karl Urban as Skurge, Taika Waititi as Korg, Clancy Brown as Surtur, Rachel House as Topaz, Tadanobu Asano as Hogun, Ray Stevenson as Volstagg and Zachary Levi as Fandral.
