Tom Hardy wanted for title role in X-Men: Apocalypse

October 18, 2014 by Gary Collinson

He’s been linked to Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange and Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad in recent days, and now The Wrap is reporting that 20th Century Fox is also courting Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises) for one of its own superhero projects, with the site claiming that the British actor is wanted for the role of En Sabah Nur, a.k.a. Apocalypse, in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse.

Last week, director Bryan Singer revealed that casting is underway on the follow-up to X-Men: Days of Future Past, so you would expect the primary focus to be on finding an actor to portray the ancient mutant. However, if rumours are true, Hardy may have to make a decision between Apocalypse and Suicide Squad, given that they’re both due for release in 2016 (as is Doctor Strange, but he’s one of several thousand names linked to that particular role).

X-Men: Apocalypse is set for release May 19th, 2016 with James McAvoy (Professor X), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Nicholas Hoult (Beast) and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) all confirmed to return.
