Tom Hiddleston confirms that Loki will not appear in Thor: Love and Thunder

June 9, 2021 by Liam Waddington

With Marvel’s Disney+ series Loki finally premiering on the streaming service this week, Loki actor Tom Hiddleston has confirmed that the God of Mischief will not be appearing in the upcoming fourth instalment of the Thor franchise, Thor: Love and Thunder.

“We talked about the Thor movies as a family saga, and the diametric opposition between Thor and Loki and duality and antagonism being a book that perhaps should remain closed for the moment. We have explored about as much as we can about these two brothers,” Hiddleston revealed to Empire (via Digital Spy).

It makes sense that Loki wouldn’t be appearing in the next instalment as this version of Loki is now working with the TVA following the Battle of New York during the events of Avengers: Endgame, but the film is already packed as it has to juggle Jane Foster’s cancer storyline from the comic books as well as the inclusion of the Guardians of the Galaxy into the story – which director James Gunn has previously stated that he has been working as a consultant.

Directed by Thor: Ragnarok helmer Taika Waititi, who also reprises his on-screen role as Korg, Thor: Love and Thunder stars Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Natalie Portman (Jane Foster), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Jaimie Alexander (Lady Sif), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Dave Bautista (Drax), Sean Gunn (Kraglin), Russell Crowe (Unhinged) as Zeus and Christian Bale (Ford v Ferrari) as Gorr the God Butcher.
