Top down boxing game Boxing Champs available now on Nintendo Switch

June 21, 2019 by Andrew Newton

After a successful release on Steam last month, Raz Games has announced the launch of their top-down boxing game Boxing Champs on Nintendo Switch.  Boxing Champs combines arcade gameplay with more traditional boxing mechanics so that gamers can have a boxing experience similar to that of the 80s and 90s.

Boxing Champs will provide players with full control over punch selection, combinations and knockouts with traditional boxing mechanics.  Players will be able to deliver hooks, jabs and uppercuts to opponents over short three round bouts as they fight their way through a full Career Mode with 30 preset characters.  Alternatively, players can challenge their friends in local multiplayer.

Boxers can be fully customised with a choice of 70+ hairstyles, hair colour, body colour, body type, gloves and shorts and fight in multiple arenas, including Las Vegas, New York and Los Angeles.

The game features:

  • Choose from 30 preset boxers or create your own from a large number of different hairstyles, colours, body types, gloves, shorts and more.
  • Four champions to defeat and four belts to win.
  • Use traditional button driven controls or use the analogue sticks.
  • Multiple arenas to fight in, from the Downtown Gym to venues at New York and Las Vegas.
  • Career mode – Train hard then move up in the world rankings.
  • Single-player and local multiplayer options with online multiplayer coming soon.
  • Cartoon-like graphics and sound, providing nostalgia without pixel art.

“Like most of us who grew up in the ‘80s with an NES, I always dreamed of becoming a game developer. It won’t come as a surprise that Nintendo’s Punch-Out!! was my first boxing game as a young boy. I now get to return the favor with Boxing Champs!”

Boxing Champs is available from the Nintendo eShop now.
