Xbox Games with Gold for July 2021 revealed

June 30, 2021 by Andrew Newton

July’s Xbox Games with Gold have been revealed with Planet Alpha, Rock of Ages III, Conker: Live & Reloaded and Midway Arcade Origins.  I’m particularly looking forward to playing Midway Arcade Origins and getting to play all those classic old retro arcade games and from my point of view this is the game of the month.  As always, the games are backwards compatible and free to Gold subscribers and those with Game Pass.

Available throughout July is Team17’s Planet Alpha.  This action platformer will take players to an alien planet where they are relentlessly pursued by enemies.  Injured and alone, players will need to navigate a variety of different environments in order to stay alive.

The world of Planet Alpha is one that is affected by a day and night cycle and as players progress they will discover their character possesses a unique ability to manipulate the time of day.  This can be used to the character’s advantage to help them survive the pursuing aliens.

Rock of Ages: Make & Break will be available from 16th July to 15th August and takes players on a Monty Python-esque journey of ball rolling adventure against legendary characters.  This tower defence game will see players build up defences and control gigantic boulders against the AI in a campaign spanning historic and bizarre characters or against others in multiplayer.

The original Xbox title available for the first half of the month is Conker: Live and Reloaded.  This third-person platformer features a campaign that is essentially a remake of the N64 title, Conker’s Bad Fur Day, but features improved graphics and a multiplayer mode featuring different game modes such as Capture the Flag or the standard Deathmatch modes.

Finally, Midway Arcade Origins will bring us some of the absolute greatest of arcade games to be produced.  This treasure trove of classics includes over 30 different arcade games such as the impressive skateboarding game 720°, APB (where you play Officer Bob), Defender, Rampage (better than the Dwayne Johnson film) and the ultimate dungeon exploring game, Gauntlet.

Be sure to get these games while you can, you won’t regret downloading these freebies….. especially the latter game.
