Zack Snyder defends Aquaman on radio call-in show

August 9, 2014 by Gary Collinson

For the past few months, we’ve heard rumour after rumour suggesting that Aquaman is set to feature in Warner Bros.’ upcoming DC ensemble Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, with Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) reportedly set to appear as the King of Atlantis. Of course, when it comes to public perception, Aquaman doesn’t enjoy quite the same kind of repuation as the likes of Batman and Superman, but when the presenters of Detroit radio station 97.1 began mocking the character on air, Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder decided to pick up the phone to come to Aquaman’s defense, although he stopped short of admitting that he’ll feature in Dawn of Justice:

“I don’t want to give anything away about the movie or anything like that, but Aquaman has some cool abilities. People are like, ‘Oh, what? Does he talk to animals? Cause that seems like what he does. Or fish?’ The cool thing with Aquaman is his Triton, so you have to realise that could actually cut the flesh of Superman if they came in contact. He’s super strong because of course he can exist at these super deep depths so when he comes up here he’s crazy strong… But anyway, not to say he’s in my movie or anything like that. But he has the potential to be bad ass. That’s all I’m saying.”

So, does that pretty much confirm we’ll be seeing Aquaman in Dawn of Justice?

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set for release on May 6th 2016, with Zack Snyder directing a cast that includes returning Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill (Superman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent) and Laurence Fishburne (Perry White) alongside Ben Affleck (Argo) as Batman, Gal Gadot (Fast & Furious 6) as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jesse Eisenberg (Now You See Me) as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons (The Borgias) as Alfred Pennyworth and Holly Hunter (The Piano), Callan Mulvey (300: Rise of an Empire), Tao Okamoto (The Wolverine) and Scoot McNairy (Argo) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
