Zombie survival game Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days gets new update

May 29, 2025 by Andrew Newton

After the Early Access release of Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days on Steam last month, developer PikPok Games has released a brand-new update that introduces a few new features designed to keep players on their toes. The difficulty of surviving in a zombie-infested Texas is about to get a little more complicated.

Life in a zombie-infested world isn’t easy and certainly not predictable, this new update aims to make surviving a bit more unpredictable with the addition of Curveballs. Curveballs are environmental and world events that will occur at random, or based on meeting certain conditions, such as the location of the shelter, how many survivors or specific dates, and will affect shelters. These events can have a positive or a negative impact on the player’s survival.

The problem with zombie apocalypses is that not everyone makes it to safety. Should this happen to a survivor while out scavenging, there will now be a chance to encounter them as a survivor (or as the developer calls them, a “Zurvivor”) when they return to that location. Unfortunately, these former allies will just want to take a bite out of you.

There’s now an expanded range of throwable items to use for different strategies against the zombies. Players can now throw stones to distract and lure away zombies, throw bricks down onto enemies and even chuck the odd pipe bomb or two. It is worth noting that this latter item can also cause significant damage to survivors.

Other features added in this update include the ability to give doors a good old shoulder barge. Running at an unlocked door fast enough will cause players to crash straight through with the cost of a small amount of health loss. A worthwhile exchange if you need to make a quick escape. There’s also a new starting shelter at Stanton & Son’s Meta, located in the Seneca district. This new locale is also a new scavenging location.

If you’re yet to discover Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days, visit the game’s Steam page and enjoy the early access in a zombiefied Texas.
