Thomas Roach previews Little Big Planet 3 at EGX….
I was very excited to play Little Big Planet 3 at EGX. I had actually not played the series since the first game but due to the fact that the latest instalment is on the next generation, I was more than willing to get back into it.
The demo did not allow any of the creative parts of the game but was still a joy to play. The one level that fans got to experience at EGX was a race level in which characters played as the new character Oddsock. Oddsock is a lot faster than Sackboy from the previous games and just one of the new playable characters available for the game.
The race consisted of travelling to the checkpoints in the course whilst collecting items and rewards along the way. At times the level was quite difficult due to the fact of the pressure of racing other players and directing your way through the complex course. This however is not a bad thing. This makes the game suitable for multiply and competitive play as well as for parties.
Even though the target audience of this game may be younger players due to the cute characters and colourful environments this does not in away take away from the pleasure of the experience. Maybe it will bring out the inner child in adult gamers and it makes a difference from playing games with lots of guns and killing.
One thing that may take some getting used to for some players was the movement. I was told during play that Oddsock knows which was he is going and only needs to travel in that direction. For some obstacles little or no interaction is needed in order to progress through the level other than movement. I got used to this immediately but some fans may take a little bit more time to get to grips with it.
Overall the demo showcased what we loved about the previous games as well as giving you the chance to play as the new character Oddsock. Fans of the series will love this game and newcomers will likely enjoy playing it also. The demo was a great experience and I look very much to getting my hands on the game when it is released. With the improved graphics and the power of the PlayStation 4, Little Big Planet 3 will certainly deliver.
Little Big Planet 3 is set for release on 18 November 2014 and is available on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
