Greg Grunberg says Star Wars: The Force Awakens is all about “the story and family”

June 26, 2015 by admin

If there is one thing Star Wars: The Force Awakens has done well (despite its heavily publicised production) is keeping its story a secret. We’ve had two trailers already, but we don’t actually know all that much about the plot of J.J. Abrams’ new adventure in a galaxy far, far away.

One of its stars Greg Grunberg however has given some details about the theme of the movie in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“I can only say that practical effects are as important—if not more important—than the special effects,” the actor said. “And it’s all about the story and family. I mean that’s what J.J. is all about. And these new characters, these actors are unbelievable. They’re so well cast. We got our script pages, only the scenes that we were in. Not even what was being shot that day! It was all on red paper so we couldn’t copy it or take a picture of it. And then we had to give the script pages back at the end of the day.”

“I have not read the full script,” he adds. “Harrison [Ford] and Carrie [Fisher] read the script, they had a roundtable in the early day—I wasn’t part of that. Everything I see I get more excited about. Everything looks like a poster. Every shot I’ve seen I’m like, ‘That’s a poster! That’s such an iconic image.’ It’s really being done the right way. Disney is so brilliant to have done what they did, with all the other films they’re doing on individual characters, really squeezing this franchise in a really good creative way.”

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set for release on December 18th and sees J.J. Abrams directing returning stars Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Kenny Baker (R2-D2) and Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) in addition to Adam Driver (Girls), Oscar Isaac (A Most Violent Year), Andy Serkis (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Domhnall Gleeson (Ex Machina), John Boyega (Attack the Block), Daisy Ridley (Silent Witness), Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones), Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave), Miltos Yerolemou (Game of Thrones), Max von Sydow (The Exorcist), Jessica Henwick (Spirit Warriors), Greg Grunberg (Heroes), Christina Chong (24: Live Another Day) and newcomers Crystal Clarke and Pip Andersen.
