Legion nearing series pickup at FX, will not crossover with X-Men movies

January 16, 2016 by Gary Collinson

This morning we brought you news that Fox has pushed back its X-Men TV pilot Hellfire, but it seems that FX is pushing full steam ahead with Marvel’s other X-series Legion, with the show apparently nearing a season pickup at the network.

“We’re already in active prep,” said FX chief John Langraf at the Television Critics Association press tour today. “We’re building sets. Our writers room is already assembled and has already beaten out the first season.”

Legion has been developed by Noah Hawley (Fargo) and revolves around the character of David Haller, the mutant son of Professor Charles Xavier. However, we won’t be seeing James McAvoy or Patrick Stewart making an appearance, as Langraf went on to reveal that the show will take place in a separate continuity from the movies.

“It’s not in the continuity of those films in the sense that the current X-Men films take place in a universe where everybody on planet earth is aware of the existence of mutants. The series Legion takes place takes place in a parallel universe in which the U.S. Government is in the early days of being aware that something called mutants exist, but the public does not. I wouldn’t foresee characters moving back and forth because they really are parallel universes.”
