Halloween “recalibration” coming from Saw writers

February 10, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

With many of horror’s classic big-bads being rejuvenated and renewed many times over, it seems that one of the genre’s biggest figures, Michael Myers, is set to return in a new film from Dimension Films.

The Hollywood Reporter is today reporting that a new chapter of the Halloween franchise is set to go before the cameras very soon, with frequent Saw writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan (Saw IV, Saw V, Saw VI, Saw 3D) set to write the film, which is being touted as a “re-calibration” rather than a reboot or remake.

In layman’s terms, it would seem that the new film would be in-line with Rob Zombie’s previous two Halloween films, keeping continuity from those but changing some other elements. There had been word last year to that effect over the status of the franchise.

While Melton and Dunstan are involved, no director has yet been announced for the project, but Malek Akkad, producer of the franchise since 1995’s Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers, is once again producer on the film.
