Idris Elba in talks for villain role in Star Trek 3

March 25, 2015 by James Garcia

According to Variety, fan-favorite actor Idris Elba – who’s rumored for every genre role from James Bond to Green Lantern – is in preliminary talks to star as the villain in Star Trek 3.

As is the case with these new Trek films, the role itself is being kept under wraps, though previous rumors and comments from co-writer/producer Damon Lindelof in 2013 pegged Klingons as the adversaries this time around. Since there’s been a bit of a regime change with the franchise, there’s no telling if that’s still the case, and Variety’s sources refused to give any confirmation.

Tell us, would you like to see Idris Elba take on the Enterprise crew in Star Trek 3? Who (or what) would you like to see him play? Sound off in the comments below.

Directed by Justin Lin (Fast & Furious 6) and co-written by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung (Banshee), Star Trek 3 opens on July 8, 2016. It will once again star Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, and John Cho as the famous and iconic crew of the USS Enterprise.
