Fast & Furious 7 director James Wan eyed for Aquaman movie

April 10, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

After the big news that The LEGO Movie duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller are set to write Warner Bros.’ The Flash, word from The Hollywood Reporter this evening has Fast & Furious 7 director James Wan being lined up to direct another DC Universe film, Aquaman.

Fresh off the mega-hit that is Furious 7, which has grossed over $500 million at the worldwide box office in just one week, Wan is said to be the frontrunner for the job. And while no official confirmation nor offer has been made to Wan, preliminary talks have reportedly already taken place.

Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) is to star as the titular underwater hero, who will make his debut alongside Ben Affleck’s Batman and Henry Cavill’s Superman in next summer’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, before re-joining the duo for the Justice League two-parter set for 2017 and 2019.

That all said however, their is a stumbling block: with Furious 7’s almighty box-office takings, Universal Pictures are said to have an option to have Wan direct Fast & Furious 8, although some rumours have suggested that Wan isn’t interesting in another car ride. He is currently in pre-production for The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist, which shoots this fall, which would certainly leave him free to join the DC project thereafter since the standalone film isn’t due until 2018.

What do you think of the news of James Wan possibly taking up the director’s chair for Aquaman? Leave us your thoughts as ever in the comments section below…
