Sony wins bidding war for Emoji animated movie

July 22, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Deadline is reporting that Sony Pictures Animation has won a hotly-contested bidding war for an animated pitch based around Emoji, the little character pictures that plague social media.

According tot he site, the project will be co-written by Eric Siegel and Anthony Leondis, with the latter also directing. Leondis’ previous directing credits include Kung Fu Panda: Secrets of the Masters, along with the upcoming B.O.O.: Bureau of Otherworldly Operations.

Given that there are no underlying rights to emoji, Deadline is reporting that a similar pitch is in the works, which may prompt Sony to fast track the project.
