Terrence Howard claims his Marvel departure cost him $100 million

September 18, 2015 by Gary Collinson

It looks like Terrence Howard still hasn’t forgiven Marvel and Robert Downey Jr. for his exit from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the actor complaining to Rolling Stone that his departure from the role of James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes has left him $100 million out of pocket.

Revealing – again – that he was reportedly due to receive $5 million for Iron Man 2, Howard claimed that he was told his role in the sequel was being cut down, and that his salary would also be reduced. With his agent responding “fuck you” to Marvel, the studio then brought in Don Cheadle as his replacement within 24 hours.

“I called Robby and was like, ‘Look, man . . .’ Leaving messages with his assistants, called him at least 17 times that day and 21 the next and finally left a message saying, ‘Look, man, I need the help that I gave you’. Never heard from him. And guess who got the millions I was supposed to get? He got the whole franchise, so I’ve actually given him $100 million, which ends up being a $100 million loss for me from me trying to look after somebody, but, you know, to this day I would do the same thing. It’s just my nature.”

Now, would Marvel have really paid Terrence Howard $100 million to lead the Iron Man franchise as War Machine? Surely that’s highly unlikely…
