Christian Bale says he “didn’t quite nail” Batman in The Dark Knight Trilogy

March 4, 2016 by Gary Collinson

A few days ago we brought you some comments from Christian Bale as he shared his thoughts on Ben Affleck’s take on the Caped Crusader in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and now Bale has been reflecting on his own time in the cape and cowl in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy, stating that he felt he “didn’t quite nail it.”

“I didn’t quite manage what I hoped I would throughout the trilogy,” Bale tells Yahoo. “Chris did, but my own sense of self is like, ‘I didn’t quite nail it.’ [Batman is a] very, very, very dark, messed up character. I found when I put on the suit, I felt like, ‘I just feel like a bloody idiot if I don’t use this as a means of, It’s his true monstrous self that he allows to come out in that moment. Let’s do that. [Heath Ledger] turned up and just kind of completely ruined all my plans. Because I went, he’s so much more interesting than me and what I’m doing.”

How would you rate Christian Bale’s performance alongside the other Batman actors? And can Ben Affleck “nail it” in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
