Mel Gibson to direct Andrew Garfield in Hacksaw Ridge

November 23, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Mel Gibson is looking to get back behind the camera for the first time since 2006’s Apocalypto, with Deadline revealing that he’s in talks to direct Andrew Garfield (The Amazing Spider-Man) in the World War II drama Hacksaw Ridge.

The project – which has been in development for more than a decade – will tell the true story of Christian war hero Desmond T. Doss, a draftee who refused to bear arms on religious grounds, but was ultimately awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his heroic deeds, including saving the lives of 75 men during the Battle of Okinawa.
