Joss Whedon says “it’s very doubtful that I would take on the two-part Avengers: Infinity War”

January 26, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Back during the height of the Sony hack, it was reported that Marvel Studios has lined up Captain America: The Winter Soldier helmers Anthony and Joe Russo to direct the two-part Avengers: Infinity War, and now as we count down to the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Joss Whedon has given the clearest indication yet that he won’t be back for the showdown against Thanos in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 and 2019’s Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2.

“I couldn’t imagine doing this again. It’s enormously hard, and it be, by then, a good five years since I created anything that was completely my own,” Whedon tells Empire (via CBM). So it’s very doubtful that I would take on the two-part Infinity War movie that would eat up the next four years of my life. I obviously still want to be a part of the Marvel Universe – I love these guys – but it ain’t easy. This year has been more like running three shows than any year of my life. It is bonkers.”

So, assuming Whedon won’t be back for Infinity War, are you happy if the Russos do turn out to be his replacement? Or would you rather see Whedon continuing in the director’s chair?
