Karl Urban, Jeff Nichols and Noam Munro linked to Aquaman movie

January 23, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

With the launch of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice still over a year away, Warner Bros. is continuing with preparations for the rest of the films they have announced for their DC Cinematic Universe.

One of those announced and already in pre-production is Aquaman, the aquatic hero who can talk to fish, starring Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones), who is reported to have signed a four-picture deal with WB. The solo film is set for a 2018 release, and the cogs are moving quickly on the project.

Rumours abound that there are two scripts in the mix for the film, both of which are are big budget adventures, putting the Aquaman film into a huge, expansive adventure. All of that will of course follow Momoa’s appearance in Dawn of Justice next year, alongside Ben Affleck’s Caped Crusader, Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, among others.

In terms of directors, two names are apparently in the mix to helm the film: Noam Munro (300: Rise of an Empire) is said to have impressed WB suits, and acclaimed filmmaker Jeff Nichols (Mud) is also said to be on the list (previous leaked Sony emails suggest Nichols may already have the job).

In addition, Dredd and Star Trek star Karl Urban is being linked to a role in the film, quite possibly the villain, and are hoping that Star Trek 3 goes into production sooner rather than later so that they can nab the star.

With its 2018 release, there is still plenty of time for the cast and crew to take shape on the film, and as soon as we get any big announcements we will update you.
