Noah Baumbach’s Mistress America gets distributor

January 12, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

After great success with 2013’s Frances Ha, and his latest effort While We’re Young set for an Easter release, it seems that writer/director Noah Baumbach can do no wrong. And this weekend, Fox Searchlight Pictures Presidents Nancy Utley and Stephen Gilula have announced that the company has acquired worldwide rights to Baumbach’s next comedy Mistress America, starring Golden Globe-nominated Greta Gerwig and newcomer Lola Kirke. The film is produced by Baumbach, Scott Rudin, Lila Yacoub, Rodrigo Teixera, and Gerwig.

In Mistress America, Tracy (Kirke) is a lonely college freshman in New York, having neither the exciting university experience nor the glamorous metropolitan lifestyle she envisioned. But when she is taken in by her soon-to-be stepsister, Brooke (Gerwig) – a resident of Times Square and adventurous gal about town – she is rescued from her disappointment and seduced by Brooke’s alluringly mad schemes.

“Noah’s distinct cinematic voice and keen sense of humor are an ideal fit for what we do at Searchlight. We are thrilled to be working with Noah and Greta and couldn’t be more excited to be taking their new collaboration to audiences,” said Gilula and Utley.

“We’re so excited about Noah’s film, and Fox Searchlight as its distributor is just the perfectmatch,” adds RT Features’ Rodrigo Teixera.

Mistress America will have its world premiere at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival and is scheduled to be released in 2015.
