It Follows actress Maika Monroe joins Independence Day 2

April 28, 2015 by James Garcia

She’s already run from an unstoppable killing machine in The Guest and a terrifying entity in It Follows, and now Maika Monroe is set to face off against aliens, as she’s officially joined the cast of Independence Day 2. Director Roland Emmerich announced the news himself via Twitter:

I have another addition to announce. The beautiful & talented Maika Monroe is officially signed on 2 the Independence Day Sequel!

— Roland Emmerich (@rolandemmerich) April 27, 2015

It has not yet been revealed what role Monroe will be playing in the long-gestating sequel to the 1996 blockbuster, though many sites are citing her as the female lead.

Monroe joins series newcomers Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games), Jessie Usher (Survivor’s Remorse), Charlote Gainsbourg (Nymphomaniac), Travis Tope (The Town that Dreaded Sundown) and Joey King (Oz the Great and Powerful), as well as original stars Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Bill Pullman and Judd Hirsch.

Independence Day 2 will go into production next month, and hit theaters on June 24th, 2016.
